Porsche Centre Victoria Joins GT3 Cup Canada

Porsche Centre Victoria is excited to announce our participation in the 2017 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge By Yokohama. This series is one of 20 global Porsche GT3 Cup one-make championships and will compete at five venues, with Canada's two largest cities in the mix; the Formula 1 Grand Prix du Canada at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal and the Honda Indy Toronto.

This year will welcome the introduction of the new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup racecar, which will be featured in the Platinum Cup class.

Leading the Porsche Centre Victoria team is Pieter Bajlet, an automotive enthusiast and racecar driver with a long history in the world of automotive and motorsports racing. Growing up in West Vancouver in the 1970s Baljet was influenced by car culture. His neighbour, Jim Madden, raced vehicles and took Baljet to Westwood when he was just 13 years old.

In his first race at the age of 21, Baljet won the British Columbia Championship in 1982, over a series of seven or eight races. Purchasing a ride with one of the factory Pontiac teams and with teammate Gordy Oftedahl, he impressed in the Seattle Trans Am race. Remarkably, he qualified behind his teammate and, despite being hampered by a first lap accident; he drove to a top 15 finish.

As a result of his time spent at North America’s top circuits, Baljet has formed enduring friendships with many of the sport’s top drivers. “Being involved with Indy Car culture through the ‘90s with Greg, Mario Andretti, Dario Franchitti, Max Papis—Max and Dario are still good friends today—I talk with them frequently. Dario comes to Monterey every year; I see him there.”

We are very fortunate to have Baljet on our team and we wish him all the best this summer at the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama.

Mark your calendars for May 19-21 as the event kicks off at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
